      William, the son of Solomon Young and Blanche Young of Woodland Hills California enlisted in the US Marine Corps on July 17, 1969. He arrived in Vietnam on February 26, 1970 where he was assigned to and served with H&HS-1, MWHG-1, 1st Marine Air Wing.

      On May 5, the Chu Lai Airfield was hit with a barrage of NVA 122m rockets which hit the MAG 13 area of operations. 3 A-4 aircraft received superficial damage, 33 personnel were wounded and PFC Young was killed by shrapnel from the hostile rocket fire.
